  1. Hello Charles,

I have had awhile to operate my Kenwood R-5000 and it has operated flawlessly to this point. It seems to be right on frequency and it hasn’t missed a beat.

I want to thank you for all your patience with me, and your thoroughness in diagnosing the problem with my receiver. It says a lot about you as a technician. Should I have any other radio’s that take a nosedive, I would hope I could request your assistance again. Have a great weekend Charles.

  2. REPLACEMENT PARTS.
    The Question In Many Owners’ Minds Is Whether Replacement Parts Can Still Be Acquired For My Vintage or Older Electronic Gear. Personally, I Have Seen That This Is A Falacy ( an error in reasoning ) or Misconception To A Great Extent. Substitution Parts Made By Several Companies With Equal To Better Component Specifications Do Exist World Wide. The Most Difficult Is Faceplate Knobs, Switches, Etc. within the COSMETIC catalog of Replacement Parts, on occansion. Special purpose or Older ( IC ) Integrated Circuit’s fall into the ” Can You Obtain Replacement Parts For This Unit (?) – category. {[ We may have to expand on this Misconception at a later time. ]}

  3. Kenwood model KA-7300 Serviced.

Quote : Wanted to get opinions of some of the more knowledgeable and experienced Kenwood owners here who have heard and can attest to the sound of these units – I currently have a a couple Kenwood integrateds I’m comparing and trying to understand what I’m hearing and maybe why. Both are original and in excellent condition. I understand aging electrolytics play a big part so while not a perfect comparison, I am also using this to see if I do want to keep both or not. Both are being tested at flat settings/no tone controls and using both a separate phono and the built-in preamp of both.

KA-7300 – SIGNIFICANTLY more bass while still being pretty punchy and having actual texture, a little brighter but mostly just more detailed, more “fun” sounding, built-in phono sounds very similar to my separate unit (to be expected as the 7300 preamp is well-regarded)
KA-8006 – very modest bass and not much if any texture to it, very smooth sounding – sounds good with every genre but a little too “polite”

    1. Is there a condition of specific electrolytics or other internal components in the 7300 that would contribute to the large increase in bass I get from it, in an abnormal way so to speak?
    2. Conversely, is something up with my 8006, or is the sound signature of these two units just that different (the 8006 always called “warm” in my research)?
    3. A 500/600 is end game for me but any other models to consider if the 7300 is just that good? I’m well aware of the 8300 and 9100 but not sure if I’d want to continue down the TA/power pack module road if there are equal discrete output options.

I also have a Pioneer SX-950 that gets regular duty and it kind of sits in between these two sound-wise – more bass than the 8006 but retains all of the smoothness of the 8006. I love my 950 too.

    Appreciate any input! End Quote.

  5. This would be a optimum time to get your VHF radio here.

One of my work stations is configured for VHF Radio Testing. I just recently, finished the Finals in a ICOM 25-H transceiver along w/ adding the PL Tone Encoder Circuit Board, for a fellow Amateur in Nebraska. I am presently, testing my personal secondary VHF transceiver, which I purchased a year and half ago, that had slight poor finals ( when purchased ) of approximately 12 % degradation in RF Power Output. I just completed the Electrolytic capacitor replacements in its microphone which had become faulty.
Soon , I believe this work station will become my station for a large Audio Amplifier investigation I had been regretting to get back into . . .

Have a good / better day.

  6. I was very pleased with the work Charles did on my Icom ID-5100. His charges are fair and his service is prompt. It is great to know that there is someone close by that can work on both legacy and modern equipment.

    I am beyond please!

The work was exception. The rig is fully functional, and with some upgrades, a bit better than spec.
